Differences in mental health status during the COVID-19 pandemic between patients undergoing in-center hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis

Journal of Nephrology has published the article ‘Differences in mental health status during the COVID-19 pandemic between patients undergoing in-center hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis’ on the 22nd of August 2023. In this article, mental health status of in-center hemodialysis patients and peritoneal dialysis patients was compared in the different periods of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
 
 

Health-related quality of life and symptom burden in patients on haemodialysis

On the 14th of August 2023, the article  ‘Health-related quality of life and symptom burden in patients on haemodialysis’ was published in the Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation journal. In this article, differences in health-related quality of life and symptom burden between older (>70) and younger (<70) hemodialysis patients were studied in the DOMESTICO cohort. 
 

Value of patient decision aids for shared decision-making in kidney failure

In May 2023, the article ‘Value of patient decision aids for shared decision-making in kidney failure’ was published in the Journal of Renal Care. In this article by dr. Anita van Eck van der Sluijs, the use of specifically developed patient decision aids during kidney failure treatment modality education is described.

On the 10th of November 2022, BMJ Open published our article: ‘Exploring experiences and health-related quality of life of caregivers of patients who start home dialysis: study protocol for a prospective, multicentre cohort study’. In this article, we describe the study protocol of our Informal caregiver project.

Nephrology accepted the article ‘Comorbidity is not associated with dialysis modality choice in patients with end-stage kidney disease’ on 17 February 2022. This study examined whether comorbidity is associated with dialysis modality choice.

Differences in hospitalisation between peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis patients

In February 2022, the article ‘Differences in hospitalisation between peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis patients’ was published in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation. This study examined the difference in hospitalisations between peritoneal dialysis patients and haemodialysis patients. The retrospective study was used for this study.

September 2021 our article ‘Impact of polypharmacy on health-related quality of life in dialysis patients’ was published. We investiged the effect of use of medication on quality of life 3 months after start of dialysis.

PLOS ONE has published our article  ‘Good Practices for dialysis education, treatment and eHealth: a scoping review’ on the 11th of August 2021. It covers a review of literature on good practices regarding dialysis education, treatment and eHealth. This forms the basis for the current good practices we are collecting in the Netherlands. On the 22nd of July 2021 our article ‘Trends in home dialysis use differ among age categories in past two decades: A Dutch registry study’ was published. Our researcher Anna Bonenkamp has investigated Renine data in collaboration with Nefrovisie. They studied the start of home dialysis in the past two decades, specified to different age categories.

The use of implicit persuasion in decision-making about treatment for end-stage kidney disease

The NIVEL has published ‘The use of implicit persuasion in decision-making about treatment for end-stage kidney disease’ in collaboration with our principal investigators Alferso Abrahams and Brigit van Jaarsveld. It was published in Peritoneal Dialysis International. In this study they observed if during nephrology consults about renal replacement therapy implicit persuasion is used.

In Peritoneal Dialysis International is ‘Key elements in selection of pre-dialysis patients for home dialysis’ published. In collaboration with researchers of the Meander Medical Centre it has been investigated which factors are of interest when selecting pre-dialysis patients for home dialysis.

The Impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of dialysis patients

On the 19th of March 2021 our article ‘The Impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of dialysis patients’ was published in the Journal of Nephrology. In 177 dialysis patients the mental health 3-6 months prior to COVID is compared with the mental health of dialysis patients during the COVID pandemic.

In november 2020 the article  ‘Bleeding risk of haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients’ was published in Nephrology Dialysis Transplant. The bleeding risk of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis was investigated.

In this article an overview of the different dialysis treatments is presented.

Health-Related Quality of Life in Dialysis Patients

In the Kidney Medicine edition of March-April 2020 our article ‘Health-Related Quality of Life in Home Dialysis Patients Compared to In-Center Hemodialysis Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis’ was published. In this article we present an overview of the available literature on the quality of life of patients who are treated with home dialysis in comparison to patients who are treated with in-center hemodialysis.
